Architecture and Literature

De Stijl branched out to other mediums to express their artistic views and genre. This included a magazine, De Stijl. The magazine greatly reflected their views in composition and layout by it's blocks of justified text and occasional poetry that seems to keep, for the most part, in a very linear and geometrical style. While color wasn't common they used black and white to their advantage. By showing lots of white space and thick strokes of black ink they conveyed their thoughts on minimal color well.
The De Stijl artist were also heavily involved in architecture. The Rietveld Schröder House is a great example of how De Stijl artist and architects combined their views and architecure. The house is made of rectangular forms and the pipes have been painted in primary colors. The architect, Schröder, even designed all the furniture inside because the De Stijl believed their artistic way was something that could be carried over into every aspect of life. By doing this, Schröder started a new trend with the look of the furniture and modern geometrical house. This later influenced the Bauhaus structure and views when they began to build their school.
